2022 has been a year of recovery and normalcy for almost everyone, while most industries are still trying to get back on their feet, the year 2022 has been a decent year for four-wheelers across different segments. 

So far, many automobile makers have reported great sales numbers even when the December sales figures are not taken in account yet. Let’s take a look at the top 10 best-selling 4-wheelers of the year 2022. Not so surprisingly, Maruti Suzuki has dominated the list as we will see but It has been a great year for Tata as well. Presenting you the 10 best-selling cars from Jan 2022- Nov 2022.


#10 | Maruti Suzuki Brezza | No. of Cars Sold: 1,14,959 |


The new maruti Suzuki Brezza was launched with a boxier design identical to its previous-gen counterpart, with some changes in dimensions. All new panels, however, distinguish the midsize SUV from the old along with new interiors and infotainment system. Brezza is powered by the new K15C engine that churns out a 103 hp maximum power and 137 Nm of peak torque equipped with a 5-speed manual as standard. #9 | Tata Punch | Cars Sold- 1,19,309 |

 

Tata has been making consistent improvements with its cars being known for its safety and comfort. Next up in our list is the The Tata Punch, which rocks a solid micro-SUV design and boasting an affordable price, it competes head-to-head with other SUVs in its sector, like the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Mahindra KUV100, and even the Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite. Punch is powered by an all-natural three-cylinder, 1.2-liter engine generating 86 horsepower and 113 Nm of maximum torque. Starting prices are Rs 5.99 lakh.


#8 | Ertiga | Cars Sold- 1,21,541 |



Small adjustments, including the interior's Metallic Teak Wooden finish, helped the Ertiga appear a little more upscale. The car also got a facelift in April. The new engine, though, was the major modification. The 1.5-liter Dual jet engine has a maximum output of 103 horsepower and a maximum torque of 136 Nm. It also features start-stop technology for increased fuel efficiency. The Indian firm debuted the technology on its larger engines this time. In addition, a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters was installed in place of the previous 4-speed torque converter. A 5-speed manual comes as standard. The starting price is Rs. 8.41 lakh which is very competitive for a 7 seater. Families prefer this all-rounder due to its feature set & space at this competitive price. 


#7 | Hyundai Creta | No. of cars sold- 1,30,690 |

 

No matter the monthly or annual sales rankings, Hyundai's best-selling vehicle, the Creta, consistently ranks among the top ten. Hyundai sold 1,25,437 Cretas in 2021, solidifying its fifth-place position. While the Creta has already surpassed its 2021 sales total, the SUV has moved up to eighth spot with 1.30 lakh sales so far this year. Remember that December 2022's sales figures have not yet been released, thus some modifications to this ranking may be possible. The Creta has undergone cosmetic changes for the global markets and is anticipated to arrive in India in January of the following year. The addition of the ADAS safety technology and significant stylistic changes make up the update's core. On the other hand, the 1.5-liter diesel and 1.4-liter turbocharged petrol engine options stay the same. A 6-speed torque converter, 7-speed DCT, CVT, and an iMT gearbox are available as choices for transmission. The starting price of the Hyundai Creta for the present generation is Rs 10.43 lakh, but if the 2023 model is introduced in India, we can anticipate a minor price increase.


#6 | Dzire | Cars sold: 1,47,922 |

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire's sales, which are currently at sixth rank, have climbed by 27% from 1.16 lakh in 2021. The Dzire has climbed one position from eighth place last year, according to the charts. Maruti Suzuki made the CNG version of the Dzire available to private purchasers in March of this year. Previously, this was only accessible to vehicle owners in Tour S form. With a little redesign, the current-generation Maruti Suzuki Dzire was introduced back in 2020. However, rumours abound that the manufacturer plans to upgrade a number of its models, including the Dzire and its new hybrid powertrain. The Dzire now has a 1.2-litre engine that can generate a maximum of 89 horsepower and a maximum torque of 113 Nm. Both a 5-speed automatic and a 4-speed torque converter are available as transmissions. The entry-level sedan offered by Maruti Suzuki is the Dzire, which is sold at Arena dealerships. #5 | Maruti Suzuki Alto | Cars sold: 1,53,900 |

 

Maruti Suzuki’s Alto, the most affordable vehicle offered by Maruti Suzuki, is placed fifth this time around with sales of around 1.54 lakh units. Comparing with the numbers for 2021, the business sold 1,66,233 units. The hatchback’s ranking could increase as long as Maruti Suzuki manages to sell at least 13,000 more units. The Alto K10 was newly introduced this year with updated styling and a larger engine. The vehicle now has the same 1-litre engine that powers Maruti's Celerio, the company's other tiny hatchback. #4 | Tata Nexon | Cars sold: 1,56,225 |

The Tata Nexon made the biggest gain in the sales rankings so far, moving up from tenth place in 2021 to number four this year. Tata has also been able to increase its sales by about 44% from the 1,08,577 total sales in 2021. Remember that December's sales are not included in the 1.56 lakh Nexon units that have been sold so far this year. The EV and the EV Max have also helped the Tata Nexon perform incredibly well. In addition to electric drive trains, the Nexon offers both Petrol and Diesel engine choices. The 1.5-liter turbo-diesel cranks out 110 hp of power and 260 Nm of torque, while the 1.2-liter turbo-petrol can produce 120 hp of maximum power and 170 Nm of peak torque. The Global NCAP ratings organisation gave the Tata Nexon the first five-star safety certification for an automobile built in India which is again a big plus. The starting price is Rs 7.69 lakh.


#3 | Swift | Cars sold: 1,64,363 | 



The top three has been consistently dominated by Maruti Suzuki. The Maruti Suzuki Swift, which sold 1.64 lakh units between January and November, is at number three. Sales totaled 1,75,052 units in 2021, ranking it second overall, however we could yet see this number being surpassed by December. Later next year, the Maruti Suzuki Swift will receive a generational overhaul. The Swift is anticipated to include the new hybrid technology, just as the Dzire. Recently, a new Swift Sport along with an ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) vehicle were seen testing in India. This car is suspected to have been imported from a right-hand drive country. Currently, pricing starts at Rs 5.91 lakh.


#2 | Maruti Suzuki Baleno | Cars sold: 1,68,733 | 

 


 


With sales of 1.68 lakh units, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno is in second place. These figures are only slightly less than the year-to-date total of 1,72,237 units that 2021 achieved when it occupied the third spot on the sales chart. Back in February, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno had an update that included new interiors, external styling, and more tech & safety features. A 1.2-litre engine with 89 hp of maximum power and 113 Nm of maximum torque powers the brand-new Baleno. The Suzuki Connect connected car technology, a new 9-inch freestanding Smartplay Pro+ infotainment system, a revised steering wheel, and support for Amazon Alexa are just a few of the several new technologies included in the improvements to the new Baleno. Prices start at Rs 8.28 lakh.


#1 | Maruti Suzuki WagonR | Cars sold: 2,07,136 | 





The Maruti Suzuki WagonR, which has so far sold 2.07 lakh vehicles, finally takes the top rank. This is a 12 percent increase over the overall total for 2021 of 1,83,851 units. The WagonR was also updated back in February, but just with minor exterior changes including new blacked-out alloy wheels and interior colour tweaks. On the other hand, the engine has also been revised, and the WagonR now features both the 1.2-liter engine from the new Baleno, Swift, and Dzire as well as the 1-liter engine from the Celerio. Pricing for the Maruti Suzuki WagonR start at Rs 5.44 lakh.
