Some cars just come and go and then some cars just stay for a long time in the heart. Maruti Suzuki Brezza is one of those kinds of cars. With a new design and upgrades, new Maruti Brezza is back to make the heads turn on the roads. But are there any caveats to it? Let’s find out in this overview.
Design- a boxier refresh
First launched in 2016, Vitara Brezza was surely a style statement for its time and has been a strong performer in the Sub-SUV segment. The New Maruti Suzuki Brezza 2022 has a lot of design similarities to its previous generations but the design is overall more solid now.
- The car has been squared out from the bottom as well as from the front.
- The hood, head-lights and bumper are streamlined to match the boxy vibes of the car.
- The engine grill is somewhat different, there are bull bar lights, and the scuff plate has also been lowered down.
- The tail lights help the car appear wider with a more distinct light signature inside.
Cabin- Interior, seats, infotainment and features
There are subtle creases and generous spacing in the 2022 new Brezza. The new Maruti Brezza's interior is distinct as well with a refreshed dashboard, updated steering wheel and fabric inserts. There is a chocolate brown finish in the front deck (on higher-end variants). However, the quality of plastic on the dashboard, and glove box stills feels cheap and rattles which could have been made better considering the fact that it is very identical to the previous versions and the competitors are delivering better here.
There is a 9” protouch screen to interact and control the audio and other features of the car with the support of Android Auto and Apple Carplay (though not enabled yet). There is a heads-up display in Brezza now, it can furnish data like digital speedometer, tachometer, gear indicators, cruise control, etc.
Moreover, there is a colour MID, wireless charging for phone, cruise control, steering adjustment, blue ambient lighting, push-button start, etc. There is still lack of ventilated seats unlike some of the competitors.
The rear seating arrangement is familiar and updated. There are two AC vents at the back with one USB and one Type-C charging points. There is plenty of knee room available even for a 6ft+ person. There are two adjustable headrests at the rear with cup holders in the middle seat when converted to armrests, the middle seat gets no adjustment sets.
Safety and Boot Space
Brezza was already a 4-star rated car and is now even safer as it offers more safety tech as compared to before. There are dual front airbags. ABS backed with EBD, ISOFIX, rear parking sensors, ESP, and hill hold. All in all, it is packed with six airbags, a 360-degree camera and auto-dimming IRVM. No complaints here.
Boot space here is at 328 litres, though not looking large on paper, it actually could accommodate large suitcases thanks to its squared-off shape, for further room, the rear seat can split and fold nearly completely flat.
Performance, Handling and Engine
The new Brezza will not be available in Diesel, Brezza will ship only with a petrol engine. It will be a four-cylinder engine supported by a mid-hybrid system. The engine is quite smooth but builds performance in a progressive manner, which means a bit slow acceleration will definitely be felt on open highways. It manages to 60-80 kmph with ease and in the city is a comfortable everyday ride as it is a relaxed cruiser, but when compared to competitors, you may have to plan well before overtaking.
With a 5-speed standard manual transmission, Brezza also has a 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. For Brezza manual vs automatic talks, the automatic transmission is a breeze on city roads as well as on highway drives. It is responsive as well though it holds on to gears more than you would in a manual transmission. The fuel efficiency at 20kmpl with this power and body is definitely commendable.
