Right after one year hitting the Indian roads, Renault Kiger has been updated for 2022. This compact SUV features subtle yet sensible design and interior changes that makes it better than its predecessor and a overall value package. Though the changes do not look major or significant, they make sense and are on point. Let’s find out if this car can be bought over the competition.
What has changed at Kiger’s exterior
The car still looks identical and likely to its first edition, the design is beloved and looks sporty. It still does make head turn owing to its compact form and funky, fresh looks. For marking its 50,000 units sold in India, Kiger has gotten a Stealth Black colour that makes the car look really stunning and there are 7 colour variants to choose from now. In this edition, there is a skid plate on the front, engine grill and headlight design remain the same, tyres are also 16-inch alloys like the outgoing car but with new red centre caps. For Turbo editions, there are new side decals glorifying the TURBO logo and there is a chrome strip at the tailgate. Overall, the car still looks handsome, modern and upmarket.
What is New in Kiger Interior and Boot Space?
More like the outside as the inside, there are minor tweaks throughout the interior as well that make a lot of sense combined with its already comfy seats. Dashboard now has a red and black trims with contrast stitches. Cabin is even more comfy now as the fabric seats are quilted. There is a 8 inch infotainment system with 6 speakers audio system. As standard, there is wireless charging as well and most importantly, Kiger now comes with a cruise control which is a welcomed feature.
Kiger’s all new all digital instrument cluster makes it look quite modernised, the animations are sleek too. The infotainment system, however, got a bit fuzzy at times giving connectivity issues. We are hopeful that final retail units will not face the same issue. The seats are spacious and one of the most comfortable in its class. The red stitch detailing on seats and steering looks subtle and the red touch on dashboard adds sporty vibes to the car. Rest the cabin remains identical to the previous version.
The rear seating arrangement is also similar though we got no complaints. Two adjustable headrests and two AC vents at the centre which is good. There is an armrest with cup holders and a phone placer also. Though 3 people can sit at the back, it is mostly spacious and suited for two people. Also, there is a plenty of knee, head, and leg room. Overall, the seats and comfort are at par with the industry standards. However, the lack of charging ports for rear passenger is a lacking feature. Also, there is no sunroof in this car, so, keep your expectations set at neutral.
What we really liked is capaciousness of the boot space. With 405 litres of space, full size bags and trolleys can fit easily into the back of the car.

How about 2022 Kiger’s Engine, Performance and Safety?
The engines are the same here as the last models, a one litre naturally aspirated and 1L turbocharged petrol. The transmission variants are: for natural aspirated- manual/ amt and for turbo charged- manual/ CVT. The 999cc 3-cylinder engine gives 72 ps and 100 ps of mpower and 96 NM & 152 Nm of torque respectively.
The turbo engine feels quick and responsive given the 100 ps power it brings. However, we felt that the engine sound, especially when pushing it, can be heard inside the cabin. But the overall ride quality is comfortable, swift and great. The suspensions are also great in the segment. Owing to its compact size, the car is easy to control and move during high and low acceleration. Fuel efficiency is claimed around 15 in city and 20 kmpl on highways, which may look low but the power that it boasts, it is ok for us. There are configuration options with variants that you have to look upon that best suit your needs.
Coming to the safety front, the car has received a 4-star rating from Global NCAP which is again respectable for the price and segment it competes in. Depending on the variant, you get 4 airbags, ABS with EBS, rear parking sensors and rear parking camera.
