Get ready to Wear Seatbelts on the back seat as well. Delhi Police starts issuing Challan on rear seatbelts

The Delhi Traffic Police on Wednesday carried out a two-hour prosecution drive in Central Delhi, during which they issued 17 challans to people for not wearing their seat belts in the rear seats of their vehicles. This is a priority point for the authorities as the government is emphasizing the use of rear seat belts now in cars post death of Cyrus Mistry in a car accident.

Officials have reported that the drive was carried out on Barakhamba Road near Delhi’s favourite point- CP. Deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Aalap Patel has told that the traffic personnel carried out the drive between 11 am and 1 pm, during which they halted cars in which the passengers seated on the rear seats were found not wearing seat belts, thus violating the traffic norms.

“Our people issued 17 court challans to the drivers and owners of the cars under section 194B (use of safety belts and the seating of children) of the Motor Vehicles Act. This violation consists of a fine of ₹1,000."

The fines were not collected on the spot. Those prosecuted will have to pay the fines in the courts,” said DCP Patel, he also added that such similar drives will also be taking place in other parts of the city soon.

To ensure that you do not get challaned for this, be ready and wear your seatbelts whenever you drive, be it front sear or the rear!
