Maruti drops the curtains from its mid-sized SUV - the Grand Vitara, check features, overview, variants and more
Maruti has uncovered the curtain from its mid-sized SUV- the Grand Vitara. The Maruti fans were waiting for a strong contender in mid-sized SUV to compete in the market. By the looks, design and features, we will have to see if it is quite a car for its name ‘Grand’ Vitara.
It is exclusive to the NEXA dealership thus, will be sold through NEXA showrooms. The model is yet to be launched in the festive season. This mid-size SUV is sure to be seen as a strong contender to its sibling Urban Cruiser Hyryder; and other competitors such as Kia Sonet, Hyundai Creta, etc. Let’s find out what Grand Vitara brings to the table for its audience.
Exterior Design
First, let’s talk about the design and exterior of the Grand Vitara, It has a sharp nose design combined with a wide grille. There are squared headlamp with three split lights. There are moderate chrome bars around the engine grill with a big Suzuki logo on the front. There are no fog lamps but lower beam lights are shifted below normal to act as one. There are 17 inch alloy wheels and the side profile is similar to Hyryder as both share similar design elements. It is a long SUV and does not feel short from its competitors. At the rear, there are three horizontal LEDs on both sides that give a flair of style to the complete design of Maruti Grand Vitara. A chrome strip also runs across with a big Suzuki logo in the middle adding some modernised and distinctive vibes to it.
Interior highlights
The Grand Vitara has an interior styling resembling its sister cars, 2022 Brezza and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Grand Vitara has a faux leather layout with a plethora of features. There is a 9” Smart Play Pro Plus infotainment system and adjustable steering wheel, the interior has a premium look and the seats are also cushioned well. There are ventilated seats at the front (available in top variants). This is the first ever Maruti to get a panoramic Sunroof in India.
For rear seats, there are three adjustable headrests, two AC vents in the middle with two charging ports, rear seats also get two cup holders and armrest in the middle. Also, on the side, there is space to accommodate bottles, etc. Rest everything is identical to the Toyota urban Cruiser Hyryder. The top version of Grand Vitara gets a fully digital instrument cluster and Heads-up display.
Engine, Power and Variants
Maruti Suzuki is focusing on coming up with new hybrid models and similar to Brezza, which is a smart hybrid car for Maruti, Grand Vitara is the second mid-segment SUV to get a Strong-hybrid powertrain. Grand Vitara is said to have a range of 20+ kms on electric-only mode. Maruti has also claimed that strong-hybrid version can have up to 27.9 kmpl of fuel economy which is really impressive for the segment where it is competing.
There are multiple variants of mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid both. The mild-hybrid version of the Grand Vitara boasts a 1.5 L K15C engine. Both variants can be paired either with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission added with paddle shifters and All-Grip AWD technology. AWD option is only available on mild-hybrid manual transmission variants of Grand Vitara. The AllGrip version gives four drive modes– Auto, Sport, Snow and Lock taht can be controlled via a push-and-turn dial near hand brake. Feature-rich on Safety and Tech
The top variants of Maruti Grand Vitara are loaded with a heads-up display, all-digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, ambient lighting and connected car tech. There are driving modes also in hybrid variants.
For Safety, Grand Vitara has ESP, hill-hold assist, all-wheel dis brakes, tyre-pressure monitor, and up to six airbags.
Launch date timelines and considerations
The official pricing and launch date of Grand Viatara are not out yet, however it is expected that the car will launch in August amid the festive season and the base variant will be priced around 9 lakh. Pricing will be crucial as this midsized SUV will be competing in a tight market with Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Deliveries will start in this festive season.
